You can't reinvent the wheel, can you? No, you can't. This crafty life pre-dates us by a long shot, as most of us know. Some extremely excellent women have been keeping the crafty home-fires burning for some time now, (as one was telling me today whilst merrily thrusting a membership form and CWA magazine at me).
The CWA recently celebrated their 80th birthday and are a force to be reckoned with.
You can this-very-moment find the CWA providing refreshments, craft and cookery to weary show patrons via The Royal Melbourne Show. (Although they're not exactly being touted by the groovy new Show website for some reason....)
But regardless of that, you must hurry to the Show before it's all over and buy yourself a copy of one of their really great CWA publications.
- Twenty Plus One Patterns for Toy Animals
- Mince Matters
- The Perfect Sandwich
- The CWA Cookbook
- The Feisty Phoenix
You can even chat with a real live vintage CWA member (who probably knows a heck of a lot more then we do about craft and life!) There are also hankies, preserves, diaries, tea towels and more great CWA things on offer. And their famous scones. Have some scones too. And a bracing cup of tea fresh from the urn.
The CWA holds Craft School at their Toorak headquarters (which operates as a Bed and Breakfast too!) You can become a member of the CWA via their website and you can view some CWA members crafty handy work here.

I love the CWA! My nanna was a member, and a group of my friends were just chatting about joining the other day. Maybe we should jump over to that website and join up! Not that any of us actually live in the country, but we do love our craft!
Sweet post. I remember a colleague editing the CWA cookbook 10 years ago when I used to live in Melbourne. Some great traditional Aussie recipes in there. xx
I love the CWA too, I always but something from them when i see the at markets etc....
I am so glad I found this Blog! Fantastic! I am a Melbourne Crafter

Oh CWA, we love you. Definitely my favourite part of the Show - those hanging tea towels (genius) and their freshly baked scones with jam and cream. Oh, how I wish I had an excuse to go this year!
