Douglas & Hope is always my last-minute-pressie-saviour. Even though their selection seems at a glance very "of-a-type" - this is a store of infinite, subtle and beautiful variation! What you find here is always gorgeous, hand-picked and supremely considered. No matter who I have in mind, Douglas & Hope will step forward with a lovely (and personal) gift possibility. It is true that one year I bought ALL of my Christmas presents (friends, family, work mates and pet) in one go at Douglas & Hope.
These guys were the fore running champions of the new-craft-aesthetic in Melbourne. Their perfectly composed patchwork quilts and cushions are probably their signature items that have made their way into many a wishlist and glorybox. These are heirloom quality pieces that set the scene for the other crafty and designer goodness that you'll find here. (And interestingly, they are so perfect that they choose not to put pics on their blog for fear of unscrupulous craft copycats!)
Princess Tina clothes and jewellery, imported candles and soaps, silkscreened teatowels, awesome ceramic-ware (I bought the most ace jade green cermaic rabbit for my brother here), niceness from Karen Walker and of course Cathy Hope's own label Immune.
They have two locations - and even though the Fitzroy store is probably bigger - I'm in love with their Block Arcade store with its cozy resonance of Victorian era fanciness.
